tbenandClaude Opus 5.5 2df1bf83f4 Show when each extension was last updated
MCP, skill and tool rows in Settings say "Updated 5m ago" beside how
they're reached and who gets them. updated_at now means a change to an
extension's settings (an edit, or any Access save): runs, connections and
MCP syncs keep their own last_checked_at / last_synced_at and no longer
touch it.

tbenandClaude Opus 5.5 56f219b322 Clear session links no carry-over made, at boot
Sessions from v0.2.8 and earlier were linked to the one before them by
every rollover and New session, so production threads offered "Show the
previous session" (and prompts read summaries) for sessions nothing was
carried from. A link is kept only when the session opens with a message
carried from that session.

tbenandClaude Opus 5.5 926bad6bea Make bot types an extension of the bot's kind
Coordinator and worker come from bots.kind; bot_types now only holds
workspace_admin (was admin), each row naming its workspace, with no scope
field. Rows from v0.2.8 and earlier are fixed at boot by migrateBotTypes.

tbenandClaude Opus 5.5 657a76d868 Mark the session on screen as Current in the session lists
- The conversation page tells the rail and the sessions modal which
session it shows (announceShownSession, useShownSession); they reload,
so a session reopened by ?session_id= shows at once.
- Only that session is Current and greyed out (the active one without
?session_id=); the active row then leads back to it.
- The rail lists the session on screen even when it's older than its
  latest sessions.

tbenandClaude Opus 5.5 cc109bc361 Carry conversations into new sessions with a visible summary
- Bots get continue_in_new_session: the bot writes a title and summary,
the session closes for good (read-only) and the new one opens with the
summary as a "Carried over from the last session" message that links
  back to the old session.
- Continue in new session (conversation menu, sessions modal) and the
automatic rollover at the session length do the same; New session now
  starts a fresh, unlinked session.
- Session length is an app setting in Settings > General.
- ?session_id= opens a session; a carried-over one shows a bar linking to
where the conversation went on instead of the composer.
- The thread can open the previous session above the current one (shown
only, never in the prompt), and replies get search_past_sessions and
  read_past_session.
- Sessions are named from their opening messages, not their latest, and
a carried summary is labelled as the earlier session's.

tbenandClaude Opus 5.5 1e6833b5d8 Have hook runs point to the brief when it disagrees with memory
A hook run follows its brief over the bot's memory. When the two disagree,
the run now reports the conflict and says the brief needs changing, rather
than offering to fix its memory. In chat, a change to how a hook's calls are
handled is proposed as a new brief, not saved to memory or promised.

tbenandClaude Opus 5.5 0e59559ea9 Keep every hook call's response, searchable by the user and the bot
A hook call used to record only how it was taken; its run's answer went
to the chat alone and was lost to the call once the job was pruned. Now
`bot_hook_events` keeps `response`, `response_message_id` and
`responded_at`, written on every call a run took in when that run ends
(completed, failed, lost, stopped or cancelled) by
`recordHookCallResponse` in the job helpers, and calls turn done or
failed. The Calls view searches what calls sent and what runs answered,
filters by status and pages; Show all loads one call whole. Bots get
`search_hook_calls` and `read_hook_call` for their own hooks (never in a
hook call's own run), with payloads always marked as outside data.
Calls are kept for the app setting `hook_events_keep_days` (Settings >
General, default now 30 days). The caller still only gets 202 Queued.

tbenandClaude Opus 5.5 fb4c89fca1 Tie each hook to a session, picked in the hook form
A hook's calls used to run in whatever session was active at the time.
Now `bot_hooks.session_id` pins them to one session, open or closed
(null still follows the active one). The hook form picks where it runs
(the bot's own chat or one of its workspaces) and a session there, or a
new one of its own started beside the active one so the chat on screen
stays. A bot's proposed hook gets the session it was proposed in, and a
missing session is replaced on the next call. Changing place or session
is refused while a run is open; the computer stays only if reachable.

tbenandClaude Opus 5.5 69988e08fc Move secrets between users and computers without the model seeing them
A new personal env scope (paradigm user: one user's secret for one bot)
beats every other scope, reaches only that user's runs of that bot, and
is redacted like any secret. Bots take secrets in with request_secret,
which puts a [secret-request:ID] card in the chat: the user types the
value into a masked input there, never into a message, and the bot is
told only the key. Bots show secrets with capture_secret (a task's
computer tool that saves a file or a command's output straight to a
personal env, then redacts it from the rest of the run) and show_secret
(an env by key): both give a [secret:ID] chip whose Reveal and Copy fetch
the value on click, for its own user (personal) or a super admin
(anything else), logged by key. Values never go into messages, page
props, history, Copy chat or logs. Users manage their own secrets on
Settings > Secrets; the Environment page lists everyone's, remove only.
Deleting a bot or user removes its personal secrets, and SecretsNote
tells bots never to ask for or print secrets in chat.

tbenandClaude Opus 5.5 027c67c0a8 Say what a skill proposal changes, so a kept runbook never reads as saved
propose_skill took no strict schema, so a runbook sent under another key
was dropped and the saved one proposed again; the confirm still said
"Saved". Now an unknown key is an error, a change that changes nothing is
refused, and both the bot and the confirm outcome are told which fields
change and whether the runbook is among them.

tbenandClaude Opus 5.5 b9c5311fde Keep computers' browser sessions across restarts and recreates
Each computer's Chrome profile now lives on the data volume
(DATA_DIR/computer-browsers/<id>, mounted at ~/.cobble-browser) and
Chrome is pointed at it with --user-data-dir. The sandbox image resets
its own profile's preferences to session-only cookies on every boot,
which signed every site out whenever Chrome exited. New profiles are
seeded with the image's preferences minus that rule, stale Singleton
links are removed before each provision, and existing computers are
recreated once (skipped while a job runs on them).

tbenandClaude Opus 5.5 380d3ebb2f Let bots manage their hooks, with the user confirming what widens them
Bots get list_hooks, pause_hook and delete_hook, which act directly since
they only take away. A new hook, or a new name, brief or filter, or
switching a paused one back on, goes through propose_hook: it stores a
hook_proposals row and puts a [hook-proposal:ID] card in the reply, which
the user it was proposed to confirms or rejects. The card is read from
what Confirm saves, with the bot's reason labelled as its own; confirming
checks everything again and saves through the Hooks modal's helpers. A
new hook's URL is shown on the card once, to the user only, never in the
outcome the bot is told. What calls a hook, its computers and its signing
are never proposed. Only chat replies propose, and a hook call's own run
gets no hook tools, so a caller's payload can't reach them.

### Bot types
`bot_types` is to bots what `user_types` is to users (`src/dict/bot-types-dict.ts`): `coordinator` (install-wide, written only by `ensureCoordinatorBot`), `admin` (scoped to one workspace), `worker` (no row). `BotTypePermissionMatrix`, `BotTypeTargetMatrix`, `BotTypeAssignmentMatrix`/`DeletionMatrix` are read by the generic interpreter `src/utils/rbac/type-assignment.ts`. Every run reads `grabBotRunPowers` once and gates tools on its `is_coordinator`, `admin_workspace_ids` and `can(permission)`, **never on `bots.kind`** (`kind` is only the legacy marker of the coordinator for visibility SQL). A run's powers are its type's AND its user's. A workspace admin gets `grabWorkspaceAdminTools` (delegate to members, set their workspace instructions, edit that workspace). Set via `api/admin/bots/set-bot-type`. Admins are marked with `AdminShield` (green, beside the name, never on the stone).
`bot_types` extends `bots.kind` (worker | coordinator) the way `user_types` extends users (`src/dict/bot-types-dict.ts`): today only `workspace_admin`, each row naming its workspace (no row = just the kind; the coordinator is its kind, written only by `ensureCoordinatorBot`). A bot's role where it works is its kind plus the types it holds there (`botTypesIn`). `BotTypePermissionMatrix`, `BotTypeTargetMatrix` (keyed by role), `BotTypeAssignmentMatrix`/`DeletionMatrix` (types only) are read by the generic interpreter `src/utils/rbac/type-assignment.ts`. Every run reads `grabBotRunPowers` once and gates tools on its `is_coordinator`, `admin_workspace_ids` and `can(permission)`, never on its own check of `kind`. A run's powers are its role's AND its user's. Rows from v0.2.8 and earlier (`admin`, `coordinator`) are fixed at boot by `migrateBotTypes`. A workspace admin gets `grabWorkspaceAdminTools` (delegate to members, set their workspace instructions, edit that workspace). Set via `api/admin/bots/set-bot-type`. Admins are marked with `AdminShield` (green, beside the name, never on the stone).
### Bots, sessions, chat
- **Tables:** `bots` (`kind`, `color` `#rrggbb`, `stone`, `role`, `system_prompt`; `hue` is a legacy fallback), `bot_user_faces`, `bot_sessions`, `bot_messages`, `bot_tasks`, `bot_task_steps` (unused yet). Enums in `src/dict/bot-dict.ts`.
- **Sessions:** one thread per user per bot in its own chat plus one per workspace; split into `bot_sessions` (rollover at `AppData.BotSessionMaxMessages`, titled and summarised by `name-bot-session.ts`, summary carried into the next session). Helpers in `src/functions/backend/db/bot-sessions/`. Job results land in the job's own session, even after it closes.
- **Sessions:** one thread per user per bot in its own chat plus one per workspace; split into `bot_sessions` (rollover at the app setting `bot_session_max_messages`, default `AppData.BotSessionMaxMessages`, via `grabBotSessionMaxMessages`; titled and summarised by `name-bot-session.ts` from the session's opening (`grabSessionOpening`; `grabBotMessages` reads the latest), summary carried into the next session only when they're linked by `previous_session_id`, which only a carry-over sets; older implicit links are cleared at boot by `clearImplicitSessionLinks`). New session (`startBotSession`) and a conversation with no active session always start fresh. The rollover carries over like the bot does (`rollOverBotSession` -> `continueBotSession`, falling back to the stored summary; kept for the next message while a job is open in the full session or there's nothing to carry), inside send-message, so the user's message lands under the summary. Helpers in `src/functions/backend/db/bot-sessions/`. Job results land in the job's own session, even after it closes, except a reply that called `continue_in_new_session` (`carryOverBotSession`; the menu's and sessions modal's Continue in new session does the same through `continueBotSession`, the model writing title and summary, refused while a job is open in the session): its summary is kept on the closed session and opens the new one as a bot message (`carried_from_session_id`), the job's `session_id` moves so the answer follows, the new session is titled by the bot then (it has no first exchange to be named from), and the old one can never be reopened (`reopenBotSession` refuses; a thread showing it swaps its composer for a link to the new one). Session lists (rail, sessions modal) reopen a session on click, as before; a carried-over one can't be, so it opens to read (`?session_id=`, `conversationHref`). The page tells them which session it shows (`announceShownSession` -> `useShownSession`): they reload, mark it Current (greyed out; without `?session_id=` the active one is), list it even when it's older than the rail's latest, and the active row then leads back. From half the session length the reply prompt suggests moving on (`longSessionNote`). Earlier sessions never enter the prompt (only the last one's summary): the thread can open them above a session (`useOlderMessages.loadPrevious`, a divider per session, quote and reply as usual), and replies get `search_past_sessions`/`read_past_session` (scoped to that user, bot and place, never the current session) when the conversation has any.
- **Coordinator:** exactly one, the super admin's alone, created idempotently by `ensureCoordinatorBot`. Default prompt `src/data/coordinator-system-prompt.ts`, backfilled only when empty.
- **Routes:** `/admin/bots` reopens the last visited bot (cookie `cobble_last_visited_bot_id`, never a workspace conversation) if still reachable, else coordinator (super admin) / latest bot / first workspace / empty. `/admin/bots/[bot_id]` conversation (header, thread and composer at 760px, no right panel); `/admin/bots/[bot_id]/models`; `/admin/workspaces/[id]` dashboard; `/admin/workspaces/[id]/bots/[bot_id]` same conversation scoped to the workspace.
- **Routes:** `/admin/bots` reopens the last visited bot (cookie `cobble_last_visited_bot_id`, never a workspace conversation) if still reachable, else coordinator (super admin) / latest bot / first workspace / empty. `/admin/bots/[bot_id]` conversation (header, thread and composer at 760px, no right panel; `?session_id=` opens another of the user's sessions there: a closed one is reopened, except a carried-over one, which shows with `SessionMovedBar` instead of the composer, pointing where the conversation went on); `/admin/bots/[bot_id]/models`; `/admin/workspaces/[id]` dashboard; `/admin/workspaces/[id]/bots/[bot_id]` same conversation scoped to the workspace.
- **Conversation loading:** pages render everything server-side (`grabConversationProps`) **except the history**, which the client loads (`api/admin/bots/conversation-history`, merged with what's already shown, refetched on bfcache restore) and pages older messages on scroll. Rail lists go through `railBots`/`railWorkspaces` (no prompts/memory, previews cut). While a reply is due the page polls `session-messages` (`use-reply-catch-up`) in case a push was missed.
- **Sending:** `api/admin/bots/send-message.ts` -> `enqueueBotReply` -> `wakeBotsQueue`. **Never import `src/bots-queue/index.ts` from a page or API route** (pulls the bunext runtime into page bundles). Optimistic bubble in `pending_messages` until the saved message replaces it.
- **Composer:** Tiptap editor reading/writing markdown, drafts in `localStorage`, `@` bots / `#` workspaces written as `[bot:ID]`/`[workspace:ID]`. Enter sends (Mod+Enter in lists/code). `@tiptap/react` needs `use-sync-external-store`; the app ships an ESM stand-in in `packages/use-sync-external-store-esm` (file dependency + override; the Dockerfile copies `packages/` before `bun install`).
- **Rendering:** markdown via `react-markdown` + `remark-gfm`, raw HTML never rendered, component map in `[bot_id]/(data)/message-markdown-components.tsx`. Inline refs, all linked by `link-computer-refs.ts` and rendered by chips in `(partials)/`: `[bot:ID]`, `[workspace:ID]`, `[computer:ID]`, `[file:ID]` (a saved file), `[folder:<volume>:<owner>:<path>]` (opens `/admin/files`), `[take-over:ID:mode]`, `[proposal:ID]`. Parsers in `src/utils/*-ref.ts`.

Parsers in `src/utils/*-ref.ts`.
- **Copy chat** (header menu): the active session (the one on screen) as one markdown document (`api/admin/bots/conversation-export` -> `conversationMarkdown`, refs as names, message headings demoted). The clipboard write starts on the click with a pending `ClipboardItem` (`copyPendingText`), since Safari drops the gesture after a fetch.
- **Replies/reactions:** `reply_to_message_id` (not an FK); reactions from the fixed `BotMessageReactions`, toggled by `react-message.ts` and the `react_to_message` tool, pushed as `server:bot-reaction`.
- **Attachments:** uploaded on pick (`upload-attachment.ts`, private `media`, text extracted when possible), linked via `bot_message_media`. Replies read files of the last `BotReplyAttachmentMessages` messages. Tasks don't get files yet.

A call while the last run is still pending and untried joins its brief (`mergeHookCallSql`) instead of queueing another. Users make hooks in the conversation's Hooks modal and manage all of theirs on `/admin/routines`; **bots never create or repoint hooks**.

Users make hooks in the conversation's Hooks modal and manage all of theirs on `/admin/routines`. A hook runs in one session (`bot_hooks.session_id`, open or closed; null follows the active session): the form picks the place (the bot's own chat or one of its workspaces) and a session there, or a new one of its own, made closed beside the active one (`startHookSession`) so the chat on screen stays; a bot's proposed hook gets the session it was proposed in; a missing session is replaced on the next call (`resolveHookSession`). Changing place or session is refused while a run is open; the computer is kept only if reachable there. **A bot never makes or changes a hook on its own:** `list_hooks`, `search_hook_calls`, `read_hook_call`, `pause_hook` and `delete_hook` act directly (they only read or take away); a new hook, or a new name, brief or filter, or switching one back on, goes through `propose_hook` -> `hook_proposals` -> `[hook-proposal:ID]` card, described from the data and confirmed by that user (`checkHookProposal` runs again on confirm). What calls a hook, its computers and its signing are never proposed. A new hook's URL shows on the card only, never in the outcome the bot is told. Only chat replies propose; a hook call's own run gets no hook tools.
**Browser notifications:** a hook with `source = browser_notifications` is called by a watcher on `watch_computer_id` instead of an outside service. The watcher (`src/data/notify-watch-script.ts`, Python + GLib, run as `gem` from `~/.cobble/`) owns `org.freedesktop.Notifications` on the sandbox's session bus, so Chrome hands it every notification, push ones included, instead of its silent built-in message center, and it posts each as JSON (`origin`, `title`, `body`) to the URLs in `~/.cobble/notify-hooks`. Chrome only looks for that service when it starts, so `syncComputerNotifyWatch` restarts Chrome once after starting the watcher (its sandbox supervisor brings it back), never while a task works on that computer. The hook's token is kept encrypted (`watch_token`) to rewrite that list after a container is recreated; `sync-notify-watchers` (every 5 minutes) and every change to such a hook resync it. `watch_filter` keeps only matching notifications (others are recorded as `ignored`). Computers reach the app at `COMPUTER_APP_URL` (an app setting; needed for a dev server outside docker), else the app container's name on the docker network. Sites still need notification permission in that computer's browser (a `Browser.grantPermissions` over CDP lasts only for that CDP session). Anything on the computer can read the list and call those hooks, which is one more reason payloads are only data.

**Secrets never pass through the model.** A `user` env is one user's secret for one bot (`saveUserSecret`, reach-checked), set from the chat, listed on Settings > Secrets (own) and Environment (everyone's, remove only). In: `request_secret` -> `secret_requests` -> `[secret-request:ID]` card (masked input, `answer-request`), then a chat message naming only the key. Out: `capture_secret` (task computer tool: a file via `/v1/file/download` or a command's output, saved straight to a `user` env and added to the run's redaction list) and `show_secret` (an env by key) give `[secret:ID]`; the chip fetches the value only on click (`api/admin/secrets/reveal-secret`, `canRevealEnv`: a personal one only its own user, anything else only a super admin). Never put a value in a message, page prop, log or tool result. `SecretsNote` tells bots never to ask for secrets in chat.

- **Calling:** `resolveHarnessCandidates` -> `withCandidates` with process-wide cooldowns; errors are `HarnessError`. Entry points under `text/`, `media/`, `audio/`, `image/`, `embeddings/`. `run-text-loop.ts` sticks to one model, caps steps (`grabHarnessMaxToolSteps`, `grabReplyMaxToolSteps`), trims old tool output to fit context. Models that can't take an image/audio part get it read by vision/transcription first.
- **Per-bot models:** workspace row > bot row > default; the coordinator always uses the defaults. Every entry point takes `bot_id` and passes it on. Shared form `settings/models/(partials)/harness-settings-form.tsx`.
- **Tools:** `HarnessTool` built per run; own tools validate with zod. `run-tool-call.ts` reports errors back to the model and caps each call (`AppData.HarnessToolTimeoutMs`). Bot tools in `src/harness/tools/bot/` (memory, instructions, tasks, schedules, `start_task`, coordinator's crew management, `delegate_task` and `hand_over_schedule`, with results relayed back by `relayJobToRequester`).
- **Extensions:** MCP servers (`mcp_servers`, remote or stdio), custom tools (`custom_tools`: http, script, prompt) and skills (`skills`, runbooks loaded with `load_skill`). Given per bot / per workspace (`botExtensionsSql`); `all_bots` only decides what new bots get. Templates `{{args.x}}`/`{{env.KEY}}` via `fillTemplate`; secrets redacted from results. stdio servers run in a per-process pool. Skill body limits are app settings (`grabSkillBodyMaxChars`, `grabSkillBodyShownChars`).

Skill body limits are app settings (`grabSkillBodyMaxChars`, `grabSkillBodyShownChars`). A skill proposal says what it changes (`skillProposalChanges`) to the bot and in the confirm outcome, takes no unknown keys (a misnamed `body` would re-propose the saved runbook) and is refused when it changes nothing.
- **Bots never add or repoint extensions or set envs.** The coordinator may only change what can't alter where data is sent (name, description, on/off, access). New skills, servers, tools, or changes to a URL, headers, kind, config or a skill's runbook go through `propose_*` -> `extension_proposals` -> `[proposal:ID]` card, which the app describes from the config itself (never from what the bot says) and the super admin confirms (`checkProposalData` re-checks). Stdio servers are never proposed by bots (they run in the app container, which holds the docker socket).
- **Check before and after acting** (`ActionCheckNote`): look for an existing record before creating one, verify every action took effect. Tools enforce it (read-back on memory saves, duplicate checks on bots, schedules, tasks, workspaces).

Keep save notices in component state (`useFormInit` clears `status` on change). Lists share `SettingsList`/`SettingsListRow`/`SettingsRowAction`. Row actions are icon-only (`RowIconButton`).
- **Backups:** DB snapshots (synchronous) and whole-data archives of `DATA_DIR` into `BACKUP_ARCHIVE_DIR`. Archives and restores outlast a request, so the route only starts the run (`startDataBackupRun`, which holds `with-backup-run-lock.ts`) and the page polls `data-status`. A restore takes a safety archive first, then restarts the process.

\`propose_hook\` gives work that something outside starts (a webhook, a script, a browser notification on one of your computers) a home the same way, but the user confirms it from a card in your reply: a hook acts on its own whenever it's called, and its URL goes to them alone. \`list_hooks\` shows yours, \`search_hook_calls\` and \`read_hook_call\` find what their calls sent and what your runs answered, \`pause_hook\` and \`delete_hook\` stop one.

If it's there, update it instead of making a second one. Create something new only once you've checked there's none.

- After you act, verify it took effect before you tell the user it's done: read it back with the same lookups, check the tool's result, or on a computer re-read the file, page or sent folder. Only say "done" for what you verified.
- If you couldn't verify it, say so plainly instead of claiming it's done. If it didn't take, try again once, then report what failed.
- Your past messages in this conversation are followed by an app record of the tools their run called ("[App record: ...]"). Only the app writes it: never write one yourself. If a past message of yours says something was saved, created, changed or sent and its record doesn't show the tool for it, it didn't happen: tell the user plainly and do it now.
- Never deny something you did either. When the user says a change isn't where they looked, check what actually happened before you answer: the app records and tool results in this conversation, and what you saved. Then say what you did and where it went, and if it went somewhere other than where they looked, point them to it. Never take the blame for work that happened, and never write a false account of it into your memory or instructions; if you already wrote one, correct it with update_memory.

- If they paste one anyway, don't repeat it; tell them to remove it from the message and use the card you send with request_secret instead.
- Never print, cat or echo a secret on a computer. To show one to the user, use show_secret for an env you have, or in a task on a computer capture it with capture_secret: either gives you a [secret:ID] ref to put in your message.
